Deborah Abbott is a passionate, prolific, and creative abstract oil and acrylic artist. Deborah grew up on a farm near Barnesville, Ohio. She’s always drawn pictures of objects, people, and animals that were familiar to her, even before kindergarten age. She later took art in high school and won two ribbons for her paintings in a show. Deborah considers herself a late bloomer due to her tumultuous upbringing and early adult life. By the time she was 24 years old, she had 3 boys, all less than two years apart and was widowed. She had experienced a lot of hardship and loss of loved ones in her life. All these things stunted her growth in creativity and self awareness. Self had been on the back burner for about 30 years. As she rounded her 30th birthday something changed within her. She had an unquenchable hunger for truth, spirituality and self awareness. A new person was emerging. A new creative person. At the time she was a phlebotomist working for an independent laboratory. She began drawing in her spare time, getting books on the famous artists like Michelangelo, Da Vinci, and Van Gogh, and began drawing their paintings, learning the process of value. Deborah then worked for a Doctor that encouraged her drawing and photography. Finally she decided to go back to college and major in art at WSCC and received a Liberal Arts Associates Degree concentrating in the Arts. She had a professor that she would buck against because she was taking descriptive drawing classes but was still striving for that individuality and creative flare in her work. She learned techniques in painting, design, and color theory that proved helpful in her endeavors. She then turned to doing abstract as an emotional release, unhindered by the fetters of realism.
Currently she resides and works full-time with her art in Marietta, Ohio, where she is also a partner at the Riverside Artist Gallery. Her work can be found in many private collections and offices in the Appalachian area.
